Job Introduction:

Role Overview

We are seeking a disciplined, alert, and certified Dog Handler (DH1) to join our security team. As a DH1 handler, your primary focus will be managing the foundational welfare, nutrition, and daily grooming of your assigned canine, while maintaining basic on-leash control during security operations. You will act as the first line of defense, utilising the canine's natural senses to detect threats, conduct controlled patrols, and secure the premises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol & Surveillance: Conduct regular foot patrols of the assigned premises alongside your assigned canine to deter criminal activity.
  • Access Control & Detection: Monitor entry points, inspect vehicles, and utilise the canine's specialised tracking/detection capabilities to identify security breaches.
  • Canine Care & Welfare: Maintain the health, hygiene, and daily well-being of the canine, ensuring proper feeding, grooming, and housing standards are met.
  • Incident Response: Respond swiftly to alarms, disturbances, or suspicious activity, deploying the canine strictly within legal and operational guidelines.
  • Reporting: Document detailed daily shift logs, incident reports, and canine performance trackers for management review.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Must hold a valid, active Grade C registration with PSIRA.
  • Must possess an accredited DH1 Certificate (Dog Handler Level 1).
  • Previous hands-on experience working professionally as a security dog handler.

Competencies

  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for long periods during day or night shifts.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for clear reporting and public interaction.
  • Exceptional observational skills and situational awareness.
  • A genuine passion for animals and a commitment to ethical canine treatment.
